Great Day in First Grade!

I changed the date on my morning message board this afternoon for tomorrow and I wrote the word JUNE . Yippee, we are in our last month and we have only 9 1/2 days left.  It gets very exciting as we get closer to the end of the year.  I collected all of the homework bags so no more homework!   It was a gorgeous day and we had an extra recess to collect some vitamin D (sunshine)!
I checked my email this evening and was informed that my Donor's Choose Project for a new ipod touch was totally funded!  Wow!  What a surprise!  I am humbled by the donation!  We won't receive our new ipod touch until next year. But that's okay:)  I just love technology and so do the kids.  Earlier this month I won a grant from the North Country Bank of Vermont for 2 ipod touches.  I'm overwhelmed!  When I get a free moment I will go out and purchase our new ipod touches.  My plan is start using them the last week of school.  What a great day!

Happy Holiday Weekend!

Oh Guess what?  It's raining again!  When will it stop?  I'm hoping for warm sunny weather this holiday!  This past week we went on our field trip to the Tyler Place in Highgate Springs, VT.  We sang the song Oh Mr. Sun sun Mr. Golden sun, please shine down on me.....and  I think that little song held off the rain so that we could have a magical day of boat rides, hikes and swimming.  Our class looked so handsome in their new tee-shirts!  One of our fabulous parents created a slide show of the day and put it to music.  It really captures the magic of our field trip!  Thank you so much Mrs. King for putting the show together!  Check it out!  Have a warm sunny weekend everyone.

Smart First Graders

Yet another rainy day in Highgate.  We have 18 days left to be first graders.  Yippee!  We have been enjoying our computer time.  Today we wrote on our blogs about how we deserve to go to the Tyler Place next week.  Check out what they said here.  We love Tumblebooks, puzzleplanet, alien addition, PBS kids, and Book Flix.  These kids are great internet navigators.  This week in the computer lab our class learned how to insert clip art to their writing in MS Word.  They love checking out all the different pictures.

They look so smart on the netbooks.

Have a great week.  We are hoping for sunny weather and looking forward to our field trip to the Tyler Place.  Don't forget your swim suit.

Keep on Smiling Smarties,

Rainy Saturday

Well, I thought it was time for a little update to my blog.  Spring has finally hit here and my spring daffodils are in full bloom.  It has been a beautiful week of full sunshine each day, so a little rain today is just fine.  I am counting down the days until the end of the year and we only have about 21 days left.  I still have so much to teach.  I am making my summer plans and it looks like I'll be on the road a lot this summer.  Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Maine will be my summer destinations.  I am taking one summer class, heading to the ISTE (technology, wahoooo) Conference in June, and my son is graduating from high school.  We'll be busy, busy. What are your plans for the summer?

Hoping to see the sunshine again this week:)
Enjoy your weekend!

Happy Mother's Day

We had our Mother's Day Tea on Wednesday afternoon and though it was gloomy outside, it was warm and sunny in our classroom.  It was great to see all the moms.  Our classroom was packed full of goodness.  The kids greeted their mom's and told them all how great they looked.  They used words like spectacular, amazing, extraordinary, terrific, and outstanding.  Our mom's were impressed.  We sang a few songs to tell mom how we all feel.  Next, we watched an amazing video created by each of the students in movie maker.  Some mom's were touched by what each child said.  Then the kids waited on their mom's and served them some refreshments.  It was a lovely afternoon.  Check out our Mother's Day Video.  Class pictures are at the end.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms.  I hope it's warm and sunny where you live.
